Teaching Support (TF/TA) Application
Note: Harvard University can hire Teaching Support staff in the following states:
California, Connecticut, Georgia (Employee must be E-Verified. Contact your HR Office if not using the Equifax Electronic I-9 system), Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington.
If you reside in a non-Harvard payroll state, you will be hired through our 3rd party hiring system, DZConnex. You will submit the normal hiring form. Once that has been processed, you will receive an email from @allsourcepps.com or @dzconnex.com with information on completing your hiring through their system. If you have questions, please reach out to kristin_foster@gse.harvard.edu.
2026-2027 Teaching Fellow Hiring Form (Students)
If you are a registered Harvard graduate student, you should apply as a Teaching Fellow.
2026-2027 Teaching Assistant Hiring Form (non-Students)
Teaching Assistants perform the same role as Teaching Fellows. If you are not a current Harvard student, including alumni, you should apply as a Teaching Assistant.
After You’re Hired: Your Next Steps
Note: You do not need to take any action if you already have Peoplesoft access and have followed the instructions. Reach out to askhr@gse.harvard.edu if you have any questions.
- You will receive an email from Payroll/HR confirming you’ve been hired.
- Follow the instructions in that email.
- Claim your Harvard Key.
- Complete required tax forms.
- Nonstudents must also complete Sprintax (central payroll will email details).
- All first-time Teaching Support hires must attend the New TF Orientation
- On-campus workers must obtain a Harvard ID card for physical access to all HGSE buildings.

- Log in to PeopleSoft.
- Go to Home → My SelfService → My Pay → Direct Deposit
- Add your bank information.

- If you will be coming to campus, and need building access, visit the Smith Campus Center to obtain an ID card.

Payment Schedule
Teaching Fellows (TFs) and Teaching Assistants (TAs) are both paid on a biweekly basis and receive a flat salary. Please note that Teaching Fellows and Teaching Assistants are paid on alternating weeks. Please refer to the Payroll calendar for all important payroll and checkdate information. TFs and TAs do not receive payment in the same week.

Pay Rates for FY26 (per 1 slot)
- Step 1 Pay Rate: $5,961
- Step 2 Pay Rate: $6,772
Step 2 Pay Rate Eligibility:
Individuals qualify for the Step 2 (“senior”) rate if they meet any of the following:
- Passed PhD Written Comprehensive Exams
- Previously served as a TF for the same course
- Received the Step 2 rate before
- Hold a relevant earned doctorate
Those who do not fall under the above categories are eligible for the Step 1 pay rate.
